Art is Open Source (AOS) & Monica Biagioli on Resonance FM, Feb 16th 2011. Italian artist duo Art is Open Source (AOS) discuss their latest project, REFF (RomaEuropaFakeFactory). REFF presents itself as a fake institution, designing crafted applications and invasive practices – it is a book, an urban performance, a world-wide networked distribution and publishing tool. Consisting of 60 authors, artists, designers, architects, hackers, journalists and activists.

Alongside the augmented world of REFF, Furtherfield is hosting an exhibition at their gallery/lab/event space by Art is Open Source (AOS), including works by Garrett Lynch, Rebar Group and Eleonora Oreggia aka XNAME, all featured in the REFF publication. The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of live performances, events and urban interventions across London and around the world.

However, it seems that the artist liberated from having to produce objects is now placed in the position of having to maintain entire museums to present his or her non-objects. tiny noise is a nomadic, open concept, audio art platform conceived by Toni [skopje] and Kyd [montreal] in february 2005. it started spontaneously as a d.i.y. experiment in forming an independent network by using global communication tools, personal contacts and experiences. the idea of tiny noise is to make a group activity out of sharing and exploring experimental, provocative and adventurous music and sound projects. tiny noise remains open to many sound/music forms, especially those enriched by other medias and looks to collaborate with other open projects. IOCOSE has been working in Italy and Europe since 2006. It organises actions in order to subvert ideologies, practices and processes of identification and production of meanings. It uses pranks and hoaxes as tactical means, as joyful and sound tools. IOCOSE thinks about the streets, Internet and word of mouth as a battlefield. Memory Loops, 300 Audio Tracks on Sites of NS Terror in Munich 1933–1945,

Memory Loops is an audio artwork based on transcriptions of historical and recent material from victims of National Socialism and contemporary witnesses, from which Michaela Melián has created collages of voices and music, thematically linked to the topography of National Socialism in Munich. Five of these audio tracks are one-hour Memory Loops related to sites within the city of Munich and with a focus on different subjects.

“Exhibitions are, by definition, ephemeral. They experience time dramatically. While the works displayed are usually destined to endure, the exhibition itself is condemned to disappear. From a historical perspective, the most authentic locus of an exhibition is arguably in the viewer’s memory. Not all exhibitions, however, are granted a place in history.

Is it true that the life of a work of art is phenomenologically autonomous from its contextual presentation in an exhibition? Is the exhibition a self-sufficient text that inevitably presumes that, after the exhibition, each work loses the particular meaning it had in the exhibition’s chain of signifiers?

And is it really true that the locus of the show is properly in the present (or in any actual time, for that matter)? Perhaps the temporality of an exhibition is more complex. Today, artistic sensibility seems imprisoned in the present, experiencing nostalgia for the future and dwelling on potentialities of the past. One of the paradoxical tasks of the contemporary curator might thus be to present a historical retrospective of context-dependent art, and thereby to defend the radicality of archival artworks.”,itt device art,
